ABOUT US

The Happy Camel is a family owned and operated business. Our main retail outlet is located in The Marketplace at Callingwood, but our products are also available at the Old Strathcona Farmers Market and other fresh markets and retail stores throughout Edmonton.

We are delighted to bring the goodness of the Mediterranean table to you in the freshest, most authentic way possible. We work hard to recreate the foods we grew up with in Israel, so we spare no detail when it comes to quality and taste. We even had a special oven made, so we could prepare the softest, most amazing pita bread imaginable!

THE JOURNEY OF THE HAPPY CAMEL

Believe it or not, The Happy Camel began in the basement of our family home. We started out selling a variety of dips and salads at small farmers markets throughout Edmonton in 1998. Our business started growing when we found a home at the Old Strathcona Farmers Market where, to this day, people line up just to buy our tasty products.

With the amazing response to our dips and salads, it only seemed natural to add pita bread too! So, we travelled to our home village to learn the secrets of baking the perfect pita bread. We returned from this trip with two electric pots, which we used at the time to bake our pitas one by one.

Where Sara grew up

Again, the demand for our products led us to expand our business. We invested in an oven designed to suit our requirements, and went from producing one pita at time to several all at once.

After seven years of working from our basement, we relocated to The Marketplace at Callingwood and could not be happier. We are now fully equipped with a 1600 square foot commercial kitchen - big enough to keep the entire city stocked with our renowned pita and other products.
